The Prairie

The proposal involves the organization of new research, athletic and entertainment facilities around a series of garden spaces that reflect both prairie (south of West Congress) and wetlands (north of West Congress), both indigenous topographies of this area. In the prairie area near Johnston Street, proposed new research and greenhouse buildings will allow for the future growth of the Ira Nelson Horticulture Center and the Greenhouse Research Center. A new interpretive center provides visitors an introduction to the prairie and its native plants. Fields of wildflowers are planted next to these new facilities and throughout the prairie to provide a buffer for the residential neighborhoods.
