| BACK TOPICS introduction the corridor jefferson blvd. grant street dist. repairs in vicinty traditional zones housing implementation |
The study proposes a blueprint for the redevelopment and preservation
of the Simcoe Street Corridor. At present, the task is to build a stronger
collaboration between Consolidated Government, Neighborhood Pride Groups,
and other civic organization to help implement the action plans. Each plan
is designed to strengthen the Neighborhoods in the corridor study with a
new streetscape design. The second strategy, the Grant Street and Jefferson
Boulevard District, redevelops this area and strengthens the connection from
downtown to the north end neighborhoods. The third Action plan is designed
to specifically rebuild and preserve the neighborhoods within the corridor.
This is accomplished by the infusion of new housing, redevelopment of traditional
shopping streets, introducing new parks, and improving existing bus stop
areas. It is critical for the city of Lafayette to concentrate its efforts
on the Simcoe Street Corridor, thereby strengthening the relationship of
the city's downtown with its north end neighborhoods. |
