Transitional Housing | |||||||
| Relocating existing houses dictates that, first, transitional housing be constructed to accommodate the residents while their houses are being moved and renovated. This transitional housing will be used by residents whose houses are being relocated of for whom new houses are being constructed. There are three basic types of transitional housing proposed: townhouses or row houses, micro-neighborhoods, and mixed-use development. The transitional housing presents an opportunity to address other issues of the project, including sound and conjunction of the I-49 Connector to the Central Business District (CBD) of Lafayette. Since a three-story building can effectively reduce sound levels, townhouses are used to for a buffer and transitional zone between proposed commercial areas adjacent to the interstate and existing residential neighborhoods. The mixed-use developments allow for infill in the CBD and introduce a residential element to the downtown area to further stimulate its development. The third type of transitional housing is the micro-neighborhood | ||||||||
