Through the public process, the Workshop investigated alternative street connections for the downtown area. It was suggested in the charrettes that the RR-4 alignment would consolidate North and South Evangeline Thruway into a boulevard design located between Taft and Simcoe Streets. This boulevard would anchor a commercial and residential district with service from a light rail system. The EA-1 alignment studied four different ramp arrangements between Second and Third Streets and Johnston Street. These ramp configurations used Evangeline Thruway was a slip ramp. Other alternatives allowed for entrance and exit ramps on Johnston Street to accommodate both northbound and southbound traffic. The Second and Third Street ramps would only allow southbound exit and northbound entry. Certain alternatives used Evangeline Thruway as a slip ramp with southbound exit to downtown at Second Street and a northbound exit. In another, the northbound exit and southbound entry is at Johnson Street. The other two arrangements studied were the inverse of the two alternatives above. |
